CATHOLIC Finally one day I asked myself, what am I waiting for? Why dont I become Catholic? This is where I belong, God put me here for a reason, said Kristi Flohe as she reflected on her conversion to the Catholic faith. After many years of searching, Flohe came into full communion in the Church last Easter, with her husband Kevin by her side, who had recently rediscovered his Catholic roots. Kristi, raised in Negaunee, grew up in a Pentecostal faith tradition. As she entered her 20s, she felt like she wasnt in the right place and left her faith behind her to seek something else. CATHOLIC Theyre windows into heaven, said Paul Raappana referring to icons. The whole idea is I can be praying with an icon of a saint, but the light that is radiating from that saint is Christ. Icons are said to be written, not painted, because they are the Word. Ninety percent of what youre there (in the class) for is the theology behind it, said Gerry Adams. Every time you write one, you write it as if for Christ, himself. Raappana, along with Adams and Anny Hubbard, coordinate an annual class in writing icons in Sault Ste. Marie (June 12-18 this year).
