May our Heavenly Father bless you with good health and a forgiving heart! - From Father Brad, Deacon Steve, Your Staff and the Parishioners at Holy Spirit Catholic Church You don't look a day over 50... Mostly because we are using a really old photo of you. Ishpeming RCIA candidate finds way back to Catholic Church BY ANGELA JOHNSON A SPECIAL TO THE U.P. CATHOLIC This Easter season one young Ishpeming couple is encouraging Cath- olics to take a new and deeper look at the Church, saying God can lead you in ways you never thought possible. Becky Cairati, 26, was baptized Cath- olic as an infant, but thats where her initiation into the Church stopped. She hadnt sought God until she was a lonely college graduate in desper- ate need of direc- tion and structure. However, a two- year conversion process has led her back to the U.P., back to the Church and into a mean- ingful relationship. She is seeking the sacraments of Holy Eucharist and confirmation at the Easter Vigil this Holy Saturday at St. John the Evangelist Parish in Ishpeming. Cairatis sponsor and boyfriend, Anthony Bertucci, 33, is a life-long Catholic who has al- ways been firm in his faith and committed to active ministry. But he has been inspired to live his faith in new ways by partici- pating alongside Cairati in their parishs 20-week process of Rite of Christian Initiation of Adults (RCIA). I am excited, very excited (to become Catholic), Cairati said about being received fully into the church. This is just the beginning, she said as formal RCIA sessions wrapped up. Walking through the RCIA processes to- gether has been extremely rewarding, Ber- tucci said. Seeing the faith through a begin- ners eyes has caused me to want to dig more deeply into the faith I have known and prac- ticed my entire life, he said. Becky has made me more comfortable being outwardly faithful. Praying in a restaurant for instance is something we now do together all the time. Never having been a catechist, Bertucci was even moved to lead one of the RCIA session discussions. Cairati is leading Bertucci to try other new parish ministries as well. (Becky) is incredibly talented and willing to do anything to help out the choir, said Lynn Bellmore, St. Johns choir director and organist. Ive known Tony since he was a kid and never realized he could sing until he came in with Becky. We are lucky to have them. The couple's love story definitely parallels their faith journey, said Father Larry Van Damme pastor of St. John Parish, The two PHOTO COURTESY OF ANGELA JOHNSON Becky Cairati (front), a very talented singer shares her talents with the St. John the Evangelist Choir and has led her sponsor, Anthony Bertucci (back) to become involved in parish ministries he has never tried before.
