Three Ironwood parishes organized a new high school - Iron- wood Catholic - to replace St. Ambrose, founded in 1892. Ex-Iron Mountain disk jockey Jack Owens, now a parish priest in North Dakota, was hosting a radio show there. FROM THE U.P. CATHOLIC APRIL 16-30, 1991 "God was a big part of my recovery," said singer Gloria Estefan after surviving a tour bus crash. Fred Anderson of St. Michael Parish, Marquette was honored for 25 years of Boy Scout service. Father John Hascall, a priest and medicine man, was featured at a Marygrove retreat. Bay Cliff Health Camp is now accepting camper applications for the 2016 summer. Every year more than 170 children, ages 3 to 17, come to Bay Cliff for seven weeks of therapy, friend- ships and fun. Preschool aged children attend for just over three weeks. Through many experiences, campers learn new skills and work towards goals that they themselves help to develop, to help lead a fuller and more independent life. The camp is the only program of its kind in the United States. However, priority is given to youth of the Upper Peninsula. When space is available, appli- cants who live outside of the U.P. are considered. Bay Cliff campers have physical and orthopedic conditions that include cerebral palsy, arthrogrypo- sis, burns, cleft palate, dwarfism, hearing loss, limb loss, low vision, muscular dystrophy, spina bifida, spinal cord injury, speech impairments, and trau- matic brain injury. Children with obesity may also be eligible. A child with a physical impairment does not have to be enrolled in special education or currently be receiving therapy services in the community to be eligible for Bay Cliff. Bay Cliff is a remarkable program where chil- dren are inspired to believe in themselves and their potential. We want every family in the Upper Pen- insula, who has a child with physical challenges to know about Bay Cliff and this potential opportunity, stated Tim Bennett, camp director. Parents that have a child with a physical chal- lenge are encouraged to consider the summer therapy program at Bay Cliff. Campers are referred by their therapists and physicians. Eligibility fuidelines are followed. Additional information is available on Bay Cliffs website at www.baycliff.org. For questions, Bay Cliff can be contacted by phone at (906) 345- 9314. Applications available for Bay Cliffcampers
