that they will remember for a lifetime. Summer camp provides campers with new skills and challenges. Many of our campers are staying away from home overnight for the first time. Canoeing, fishing and campfires are also activities that many have never experienced. Often this is the only opportuni- ty for many of these children to experience sleep-away camp. Summer Camp is a place where young people can come to have fun in a safe, struc- tured, Christian environment. Although this camp is for the youth, its many volunteers ben- efit greatly from the experience as well. Campers come back year after year, and eagerly look forward to the year they can become a counselor. A way is always found, whether through scholarships or sponsors, to help finance a child who lacks the funds to attend. Dawn Stephenson and Patty Peck-Faketty are still active in organizing and running Summer Camp. Currently, they are as- sisted by Dick Seibert, Annette Butina and Melissa Coyne. An integral and vitally import- ant member of Summer Camp is Father Tim Hruska. Camp could not exist without his will- ingness to attend every year. Father Hruska comes to camp and enjoys experiencing every- thing just like the campers. He can be found swimming in the lake, playing games, partici- pating in the lessons, singing at the campfire and sharing his love of fishing with any young person that is interested. How- ever, his most significant con- tribution is the gift of Mass and the Eucharist that he shares with the group on Wednesday evening during camp. Summer Camp for youth ages 7 to 16 years will be held July 18-21 at the Clear Lake Edu- cation Center near Shingleton. The cost is $100 per child or $200 per family. Some parishes have scholarships. Campers should check with their local parish to see if scholarships are available. Registration deadline is July 1.
