MAY 9-11 A Senior Citizens retreat will take place at Marygrove Re- treat Center in Garden. It em- phasizes the value of age and wisdom, often not valued in society today. Father Corbin Eddy will lead the retreat, and is open to both singles and couples. * MAY 12-14 Marygrove Retreat Center in Garden will host a retreat for those whose lives that are affected by alcohol and addic- tion. This 12-Step Retreat is for men and women who are in recovery for alcoholism/ addiction or who are close to someone who struggles with alcohol abuse and addic- tion. Members of Alcoholics Anonymous and Al Anon are invited to participate in this retreat, recognizing that God can grant the serenity one needs to face the hardships of life. * SUNDAY, May 14 All Saints Parish in Gladstone will hold a Mothers Day break- fast from 9:30 a.m. until 12:30 p.m., sponsored by the Knights of Columbus. Menu consists of pancakes, scrambled eggs, ham, sausage, toast and more. Cost is $7 for adults, $5 for children ages 10-18, and children younger than 10 are no cost. A Mothers Day breakfast will take place at American Martyrs, Kingsford following the 8 and 10:15 a.m. Masses. The entire family is welcome to attend the breakfast. CATHOLIC CALENDAR Still time to register for Fatima centennial celebration A diocesan-wide celebration commemorating the 100th anniversary of the Marian apparitions at Fatima will be held on Saturday, May 13 at St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette. The celebration begins at 9 a.m. and concludes with the 4 p.m. Vigil Mass celebrated by Bishop John Doerfler. Some of the events planned are presentations by John Priess, president of Fatima Family Apostolate, a procession through the streets of Marquette, and programs for children 12 and younger. A lunch will be provided at no cost by the Knights of Columbus. Following Mass, a dinner will be available for $10 for adults and $5 for children. This years presenter is Denise Bossert, writer of the syndicated column Catholic by Grace which is published in 63 diocesan newspapers including The U.P. Catholic . (Read her column on page 6 of this issue). The admission for the lecture is free. However, an optional lunch is being offered for $15. Care Clinic annual LifeWalk set for May 20 in Marquette The annual LifeWalk, sponsored by Care Clinic, will take place Saturday, May 20 at Mattson Lower Harbor Park in Mar- quette. Registration begins at 9:30 a.m., with the walk at 10 a.m. In addition, at the start of the walk, a balloon release will take place. The biodegradable balloons can be purchased online or at the event for $10 in honor or in memory of a loved one. The money raised is used to support Care Clinic programs and services that help women and men in untimely pregnan- cies and provide alternatives to abortion.
