CATHOLIC CALENDAR Annual Care Clinic Life Walk to take place May 14 The annual Life Walk, sponsored by Care Clinic, will take place Saturday, May 14 at Mattson Lower Harbor Park in Marquette. Registration will be at 9:30 a.m. ET, with the walk to start at 10 a.m. In addition, at the start of the walk, a balloon release will take place. The biodegrad- able balloons can be purchased online or at the event for $10 in honor or in memory of a friend or loved one. Life Walk offers all who care about the value of human life an opportunity to help in a real way. Monies raised are used to support Care Clinic programs and services that help women and men in untimely pregnancies and pro- vide alternatives to abortion. The Year of Mercy through the Sacred Heart The First Friday Club series at St. Michael Parish in Marquette will be held on June 3 from 11:30 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. ET in the Zyrd Parish Center. Deacon Steve and Jackie Gretzinger of Menominee will present on "Liv- ing the Year of Mercy through the Sacred Heart of Jesus." They will help participants to identify those people, times and events in our lives that need healing, forgiveness and mercy. In addition, they will also share how Jesus, through his Most Sacred Heart, can work miracles on June 3, The Solemnity of the Most Sacred Heart of Jesus. The First Friday Club is opened to everyone. School Sisters of Notre Dame teaching 12,000 students in U.P. 50 & 25 YEARS AGO BY LARRY CHABOT FROM OUR SUNDAY VISITOR MAY 1-15, 1966 Anne Strelick of Iron Mountain, sister of diocesan priest Charles, returned from two years working at a Catholic hospital in Nigeria. The School Sisters of Notre Dame, active in the U.P., were teaching 12,000 students in 24 countries. Home from 20 years with Jesuit missions in India was Father William Goodreau of St. Ignace. FROM THE U.P. CATHOLIC MAY 1-15, 1991 Father John McArdle of Rapid River, a native of Chicago who said he "escaped" to the U.P., marked 40 years of priest- hood. Full pages of Easter Vigil Masses featured dozens of wor- shipping parishioners. Diners at a benefit for St. Mary Parish in Hermansville were entertained by three bands.
