But having the opportunity to watch a home video of the family member relating life-long memories made especially for his/her family is incomparable. This opportunity is available through a Life Mem- ories program provided by OSF Hospice. The Life Memories program al- lows OSF Hospice patients who are in the final stages of life to relive and relate their memories for their loved ones. Volunteers conduct the persons life story interviews and re- cord them to DVD. These items make invaluable keepsakes for a family to cherish forever, said Ilene Kotajarvi, OSF Hospice/NODA Volunteer Coor- dinator. OSF Hospice offers this program as a free service to their patients and their families; for both those family members that are going to miss them as well as those yet to come in future fenerations. Having stories shared by those that have lived them and in their own voice is a beautiful addition to traditional photography and writing. How to get started: Let a volun- teer know of your interest and a first meeting will be scheduled. A list of questions will be sent to help guide discussions about his or her life story. We encourage you to gather photos, letters and other keepsakes to help stimulate memories. The Recording process: Once scheduled, a volunteer will come to your home to conduct an interview, fuiding you through with questions to help you easily discuss parts of your life (childhood, adult life, love stories, etc.) A session lasts 30 minutes to an hour. If more time is needed, anoth- er session will be scheduled. Family photos may also be included as part of the recording. (This service is provided by volunteers interested and trained in photography; they are not licensed professional videographers.) DVD completion: OSF Hospice will provide a DVD to you. Once it has been approved and released to family, the data will no longer be retrievable by OSF. All information is kept confi- dential. Your life story matters. If interest- ed, call OSF Hospice at (906) 786- 3915.
