www.upcatholic.org THE U.P. CATHOLIC June 16, 2017 11 a family. It is becoming centralized and micro-managed from the top down. Were going in the wrong direction with paper- work and answering machines. In the past, people could drop in to talk to their priest anytime. Now, they get an answering machine. Theres a positive side to technology, too, Father Zaloga says. We have a lot more opportunity to get the Gospel out there. Its exciting. But society has changed and we have to be more committed to getting the message out in a clear and risky way. We may offend people by telling the truth. But ignoring the truth isn't stopping people from leaving the Church, Father Zaloga said. It should be done in a nice way, not nasty or scolding. But people have to know they stand to lose eternal life. He is concerned about young people. There is so much in their lives: finances, morality, manners, crime. I feel sorry for them. I wish I could leave them the world my grandparents left me, he said. Our faith cant be based on programs, but on every day living out the faith, not only taking courses. We need to press on to live life in God in a creative way. Editors note: Father John Hascall and Msgr. John "Jed" Patrick are also celebrating 50th jubilees this year. The U.P. MENOMINEE, MI M & M Plaza Prayer for Priests Dear Lord, we pray that the Blessed Mother wrap her mantle around your priests and through her intercession strengthen them for their ministry. We pray that Mary will guide your priests to follow her own words, "Do whatever He tells you" (Jn 2:5). May your priests have the heart of St. Joseph, Mary's most chaste spouse. May the Blessed Mother's own pierced heart inspire them to embrace all who suffer at the foot of the cross. May your priests be holy, filled with the fire of your love seeking nothing but your greater glory and the salvation of souls. Amen. Saint John Vianney, pray for us.
