continue on July 9 and Aug. 20 at St. Mary Queen of Peace Parish. Each series is made up of three sessions with the same underlying theme. Or- ganizers are already planning a fall series in September, October and November. How- ever, the hopes of the minis- try are that it will eventually travel to other parishes in the diocese. "The idea is really that we would love to travel. This is not a ministry that is tied to one parish. We hope that oth- er parishes become interest- ed. We would go to a parish and do a three event series," said Claverie. "However, we'll only go places that we're invited." Awaken Ministry got its start in the Archdiocese of De- troit in 2013, and has made its way to other dioceses in the state of Michigan. The part- nership with the U.P. began through an Iron Mountain native. According to Fornetti, one of the core team members in Detroit is from the U.P. and has childhood friends that live in Iron Mountain. These con- nections and experiencing an event is what led to the Awak- en Ministry being established in Kingsford. "Chris Colavecchi went down to help play in the band for an Awaken event and it really sparked his interested. From there it evolved, and a group of us went down to an event this winter and spent an entire day seeing what we would have to do to bring it up here," said Fornetti. Each Awaken Ministry event features a keynote speaker. Father Brad Sjo- quist will speak at the July event, while Father Ben Hasse will speak in August.
