He was born Steven Nehemiah Glenn on Aug. 8, 1945 in Ann Arbor, Mich. to Nehemiah and Zorabel (Richardson) Glenn of Ypsilanti, Mich. He graduated from Ypsilanti High School in 1963. Following high school, he earned a master's degree in music performance from the University of Michigan. He went on to teach voice and con- ducted choirs at Central State Univer- sity in Wilberforce, Ohio, and Lincoln University in Jefferson City, Mo. In 1971, he returned to Michigan, teach- ing music in the St. Clair Shores and Detroit public schools, served as artist in residence at Wayne County Commu- nity College, and as music director at Holy Redeemer and St. Agnes Catholic Churches. In 1983, he embraced monastic life. He moved to Eagle Harbor, where he established the monastery that he guid- ed for 33 years, until his death. He was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his brother David (Tulani) Glenn, five nieces and nephews, along with numerous grand nieces and nephews. Beaumier was born on Aug. 29, 1931 in Escanaba, the youngest of six children to Henry Joseph and Lillian Helen (Belenger). He attended Northern Michigan University where he majored in chemistry and played football. Beaumier went on to earn his doc- tor of medicine degree in 1958. He then worked as a physician for the U.S. Navy until 1962. It was during this time he married Mary Jane McKenna on July 2, 1958. After his time in the military, Beaumier spent 35 years as an orthopedic surgeon in Marsh- ield, Wis.; Grand Forks, N.D.; and Rochester, Minn., where he inished his career as a staff physi- cian for the department of ortho- pedics at the Mayo Clinic. John and his wife, Mary Jane have been longtime supporters of the Diocese of Marquette. The couple joined the Bishop's Ambas- sadors in June of 2001. They were active in the advancement of the Legacy of Faith campaign, along with instrumental in fundraising the Bishop Baraga Chapel at St. Peter Cathedral in Marquette. They provided a matching grant to incentivize local fundraising for the chapel. Beaumier served on the dioce- san development council, as well as on boards of The Community Foundation for Delta County, Delta County Historical Society, and Northern Michigan Universi- ty Foundation. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son, Paul McKenna Beaumier. He is survived by his children, Jack G. Beaumier, Anne Beaumier Ritz, Patrick J. Beaumier, MD, Michael J. Beaumier, Matthew H. Beaumier, JD, Father Casey C. Beaumier, SJ, Colin W. Beaumier, and Katie Beaumier Ryan; along with 13 grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on May 28 at St. Joseph and St. Patrick Catholic Church in Es- canaba, Father Casey Beaumier, SJ, officiated. Burial was held at Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery in Escanaba. John H. Beaumier John H. Beaumier Sister Oda Marie DeGroot, O.P., 100, formerly known as Lambertha Mary and a native of the Upper Penin- sula, died on May 24, 2017 in Racine, Wis. Sister Oda Marie was born Oct. 27, 1916 to Henry and Wilhelmina DeGroot in Northland, Mich. She joined the Racine Dominicans on Aug. 30, 1937. She was given the religious name Sister Oda Marie in 1938. She professed her first vows in 1940 and her final vows in 1946. During her time in ministry, Sister Oda Marie served others in housekeeping and food ser- vice. Her ministry began in 1940 at St. Norbert's in Roxbury, Wis. She also served in other areas in Wisconsin as well as in Illinois. From 1979-2003 she ministered at the Salvatorian Mission Warehouse in New Holstein, Wis., packing mission supplies. Sister Oda Marie became a resident at Siena Center in 2004. Sister Oda Marie is survived by her congregation, as well as nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents; and her brothers, Joseph (Mary) DeGroot and Reverend John DeGroot, SDS; and her sister, Sister Alma DeGroot, O.P.
