8 September 16, 2016 THE U.P. CATHOLIC UPCSA www.upcatholic.org spring of 2017. Couples will be trained in the the- ology of marriage and evangelization and given some background in mar- riage preparation resources, stated Gostomski. Mentor couples will then walk engaged couples through the marriage preparation process and be there for them after the marriage takes place. They will also be an advo- cate for marriage in their parish. In addition to family ministry, UPC- SA supports a multitude of ministries in the broad categories of faith for- mation and education, vocations and pastoral outreach, evangelization, and Catholic Social Services. Many of the diocesan ministries, such as instruct- ing people in the faith and comforting the sorrowful, reflect the focus of the Year of Mercy that was opened by Pope Francis last Dec. 8 and will close on Nov. 20. They also flow from the diocesan mission statement that was revised this year: We, the Diocese of Mar- quette, united in Word and Sacra- ment and in communion with the universal Catholic Church, witness to and proclaim the Good News of Jesus for all people in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Parishioners are encouraged to make a pledge or a one-time gift to UPCSA through their local parish or mission. Donors can also contribute online through the diocesan website or make a donation of stock. UPCSA funding: Continued from Page 7
