CATHOLIC A desire by one person to visit each of the Catholic churches in the Upper Peninsula became a spiritual journey and has led to an upcoming series of three books, Reflections of His Glory. In December of 2014 MaryAnn Bernier began working as Bishop John Doerfler's administrative assistant. She learned of his desire to make pastoral visits to each of the 94 parishes and missions in the diocese which he accomplished in November 2015 when visiting St. Jude Parish in White Pine, and continues to make subsequent pastoral visits. In support of the bishop as well as the parishes and priests of the diocese, Bernier said she decided to make this her goal as well. Bernier's pilgrimage across the diocese be- gan in May 2015. At each church she prayed for the priests of the parish, the parishioners (past, present and future) and the people of the community. She also made photographs of each church's interior and exterior. A year-and-a-half and 10,000 photographs later, Bernier had recorded all 95 churches (St. John Neumann Parish is unique with churches in both Spalding and Hermans- ville). This journey gave Bernier an apprecia- tion of the uniqueness of each church, the peacefulness and the beautiful details from the most simple to most intricate, she said.
