Marie, + St. Kateri Tekakwitha, Bay Mills Mission Congratulations on your 50th Anniversary, Father John. You are a blessing to us and all the parishes you have served throughout your 50 years as a priest. COURTESY PHOTO Sharon Dani is pictured with the 20 Our Lady of Fatima Pilgrim Virgin Statues purchased with grant funds from Our Sunday Visitor. The message of Fatima being shared A one-time event drawing 800 people earlier this year, followed by many years of devotion to Our Lady of Fatima to come, are two of the results of a $10,000 grant from Our Sunday Visitor to the Diocese of Marquette. Father Corey Litzner, pastor of Most Holy Name of Jesus/St. Kateri Tekakwitha in Assinins, St. Ann in Baraga and Sacred Heart of Jesus in L'Anse, spearheaded the effort to obtain the grant to spread the approved message of Fatima (Por- tugal) within the diocese. He said the goal is To change the mindset and heartset of Catholics by heeding Our Ladys messages at Fatima. Part of the funds supported the diocesan-wide Fatima Centennial Celebration held Saturday, May 13, 2017 at St. Peter Cathedral in Mar- quette, which marked the 100th anniversary of Our Lady's first appearance at Fatima. Families from across the U.P. came to Marquette to hear talks by John Preiss, president of the Fatima Family Apostolate International, learn about Catholic organizations such as Armata Bianca, the Blue Army, and the Knights of Columbus, as well as to participate in a Marian procession from the cathedral to Washington Street in downtown Marquette and back. The remaining funds were used to purchase twenty Our Lady of Fatima Pilgrim Virgin Statue Program Kits from the World Apostolate of Fatima. These statues are going to Catholic schools, parish religious programs and visiting homes for short periods to spread the message of Fatima and devotion to the Immaculate Heart of Mary and Sacred Heart of Jesus. You cant change a mindset without educat- ing, said Father Litzner. Thats a huge part of our efforts. He said the statues in parishes, schools and homes will remind people of the three-fold mission that the Blessed Mother gave the chil- dren (at Fatima): Whenever you offer sacrifice, make sure to do it for the love of Jesus, for the conversion of sinners and in reparation for the sins against the Immaculate Heart of Mary. We need to remember to offer up our sac- rifices when we start complaining about the busyness of daily life so that those times will be fruitful. Its about changing the inevitable sufferings of daily life into sacrifices that can console Jesus and Mary, Father Litzner said. Heeding our Blessed Mothers call to peace and joy in the world and families especially. Thats simply what its all about. God said it through our Blessed Mother. She was his ambassador. If God wanted this, then our job is to educate so more people heed her messages, said Father Litzner. The 28-inch statues are sent out as part of a kit, which includes rosaries and brown scapulars along with pamphlets about them, and DVDs about the Fatima apparitions and message. Sha- ron Dani, diocesan coordinator of the program, said she is impressed by the size and beauty of the statues that are handmade in Fatima. For more information about how to bring this program into your parish, contact Sharon Dani at (906) 346-3480. She and her husband, Bill, are also custodians of the Diocesan Virgin Pilgrim Statue.
