Rick Courier, passed away on Sept. 24, at Bishop Noa Home in Escanaba. Courier was born Sept. 13, 1936 to William and Ruth (Provo) Courier. He was a 1955 graduate of Escanaba High School. Courier worked as an assembler and welder for Harnischfeger, where he retired from in 1982 when it closed. He was a member of the UAW, Wildlife Relief, the U.P. Sportsmens Alliance, and the Rapid River Lions Club, where he was an outstanding Lion of the year. Courier is survived by Judy Lauria, children, Cindy (Dan) Homa of Marinette, Wis., Father Rick Courier of Escanaba, and Domenic (Jennifer) Lauria; grandchildren, Joe Kleikamp, Katie and Kelsey Pittman, and Nicholas and Emily Lauria; three great-grandchildren; and siblings, Barb Leny of Myrtle Beach, SC and Shirley (Norman) Ross of Waukesha, Wis. He was preceded in death by his parents and the mother of his children, Marlene Bedard Maki. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Sept. 28 at St. Thomas the Apos- tle Parish in Escanaba. The Mass was concelebrated by Father Rick Courier, Father John Longbucco and Father Eric Olson. Burial took place in Gardens of Rest Cemetery. Wayne L. Courier Wayne L. Courier W L Janet Maudie Catherine Pattan, 72, of Rock, a recipient of the 2016 Legacy of Faith Catholic Service Award, died on Sept. 25. Pattan was the youngest child of Mercedes Rademacher and Roy Mason, born on Jan. 19, 1944 in Detroit. She married Fred Pattan on Jan. 26, 1962. Pattan served the Church by delivering meals and bring Communion to the homebound, teaching faith formation, and helped to spread the devotion of Divine Mercy to her parish of St. Joseph in Rock. She was most known for sharing her musical talents as the parishs musician. Pattan was preceded in death by her sister Phyllis, her par- ents, and her brother Richard Dick. She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Fred, her sister, Pat (George) Peterson, children: Patty ONeal of Marquette; Roy (Geri) Pattan of New Vienna, Ohio; Jennifer (Herb) Wheeler of Rock; Elizabeth Libby Pattan, Eric Gustafson of Rock; Shirley (Joan) Pattan of Jacksonville, Fla., Mary (Harve) Heburn of Atoka, Tenn.; Teri Trudeau, Robert Manty of Powers, Mich. She is also survived by 24 grandchildren, and numerous great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Sept. 28 at St. Joseph Parish in Rock, Father Jacek Wtyklo officiated.
