30 October 28, 2016 THE U.P. CATHOLIC PRIESTHOOD SUNDAY - OCT. 30, 2016 www.upcatholic.org Rev. Sebastian Kavumkal MST Your Parishioners Families of Holy Name of Mary and Sacred Heart Thank You Father Sebastian Kavumkal! Your dedication and commitment to the Holy Priesthood of Christ is appreciated. Revered Darryl Pepin, Thank you for your loving leadership, and for giving your life in service for our salvation. You are a ine and holy pastor; you are very much appreciated! With our sincere love and gratitude from your parish families of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton & St. Joseph Mission Pastors installed in parishes Since becoming bishop of the Diocese of Marquette, Bishop John Doerfler has been making his way around the Upper Pen- insula, visiting many parishes and missions. During some of his visits, he has been taking the opportunity to perform a spe- cial blessing on those pastors who have been recently assigned to a new parish. This is referred to as the Rite of Installation of a Pastor, and officially introduces a pastor to their parish. This rite communicates to the local church that they do not stand alone, but are members of the broader Body of Christ, the Church in the Diocese of Marquette. This rite occurs during a Sunday Mass, generally one that is the most populated for the specific parish. It begins following the bishop's homily when he introduces the pastor to the con- gregation of his new parish. The pastor is then asked by the bishop to demonstrate his role as the parish's shepherd and teacher by leading the assem- bly in the Nicene Creed (profession of faith). At the conclusion of the creed, the pastor turns to the bishop and recites an Oath of Fidelity. The oath states his commitment to the word and teachings of Christ and the Church. Following the oath, the Profession of Faith and Oath of Fidel- ity statements are signed and dated on the altar by the bishop and the pastor. The Mass then proceeds as usual. Prayer for Priests Dear Lord, We pray that the Blessed Mother wrap her mantle around your priests and through her intercession strengthen them for their ministry. We pray that Mary will guide your priests to follow her own words, "Do whatever He tells you" (Jn 2:5). May your priests have the heart of St. Joseph, Mary's most chaste spouse. May the Blessed Mother's own pierced heart inspire them to embrace all who suffer at the foot of the cross. May your priests be holy, filled with the fire of your love seeking nothing but your greater glory and the salvation of souls. Amen. Saint John Vianney, pray for us.
