Women religious bring joy, service to the diocese BY JAMIE CARTER THE U.P. CATHOLIC Women religious are found throughout the Diocese of Marquette, from Houghton to Sault Ste. Marie, and in between. Currently there are 39 women from 10 different congregations serving in the Upper Peninsula. Among them are Sisters Mary Ann Laurin and Ellen Enright, both of whom have celebrated 50 years as women religious in 2015. SISTER MARY ANN LAURIN Sister Mary Ann Laurin, a member of the Sisters of St. Paul de Chartres (SPC), was born and raised in the small Upper Peninsula town of Carney, but her ministry has taken her to Haiti, Madagascar, Cameroon and Rome, just to name a few. Everything I have done, I like more than what I did before. I think its because I have been open, stated Sister Laurin. Theres a saying that goes, youre as happy as you decide to be. So, I guess Ive always decided to be happy. It doesnt mean that there haven't been difficult times.
