www.upcatholic.org THE U.P. CATHOLIC AROUND THE DIOCESE November 17, 2017 19 Initiative provides Care Clinic with new ultrasound machine The Care Clinic of Marquette recently celebrated the delivery of a new ultrasound machine after almost nearly a year of training and raising funds for the Operation Ultrasound Initiative. The initiative began last August with funding from the Superi- or Health Foundation and an anon- ymous donor which provided the funding for the ultrasound training of the Care Clinics nurse manager. This spring, Livingston County Ultra- sound Initiative donated 25 percent towards the machine. The local Knights of Columbus and National Supreme Council provid- ed the funding for the additional amount. The Knights of Columbus Campaign to Save One Million Chil- dren has a national goal of providing 1,000 ultrasound machines across the nation. To date, the campaign has provided more than 800 machines. Jocelyn Mattson, registered nurse and Care Clinic nurse manager stated of the new ultrasound, the goal of the Operation Ultrasound project is to enhance and improve ultrasound services and technology/equipment, as well as increase access to the ul- trasound services at the Care Clinic. When a woman first discovers she is pregnant, when she is looking at her options, is confused about how far along she may be, or if she is con- cerned she may miscarry, the ultra- sound is a powerful tool. When she gets to see the baby growing inside her for the first time, her heart is often changed, it becomes real to her, and that Window into the Womb provides her with the opportunity to meet her baby. This can be life chang- ing and is a very precious moment shared between a mother and child that only an ultrasound can provide. The Care Clinic has locations in Marquette and K.I. Sawyer. For more information, call the Mar- quette office at (906) 228- 2273, the K.I. Sawyer office at (906) 346-2606, or visit www.careclinicmqt.org. JAMIE GUALDONI THE U.P.
