Rivard was born April 18, 1919 in Stephenson, to the late Frank and Isabelle (Tickler) Thoune. She married Kenneth Rivard on Oct. 7, 1936 in Stephenson, together they op- erated a dairy farm just outside of Daggett for 25 years. She was an active member of Precious Blood Parish in Stephenson, Fruit of the Spirit Prayer Group, St. Marys Sanctu- ary Society and the Mid County Pool League. Rivard is survived by four daughters, Kenlyn (Dick) Crane of Houghton Mich., Ann Dressel of New Holstein, Wis., Marie (John) Kakuk of Cedar River, Mich. and Antoinette (Steve) Erdman of Menominee, Mich.; five sons, Duane (Judy) of Grand Blanc, Mich. and Gary (Marie), Lloyd (Peggy Shorty) and Frank (Janice), all of Daggett and Deacon Thomas (Betty) of Wallace, Mich.; 33 grandchildren; 63 great- grandchil- dren; four great-great-grandchildren; along with two brothers, Raymond (Sandra) Thoune of Menominee and Lloyd (Kathleen) Thoune of Stephenson, and two sisters-in-law, Irene Thoune of Ashville, N.C. and Jane Thoune of Wallace, Mich. Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kenneth; a granddaugh- ter, Melanie Rivard; two grandsons, Wade Rivard and Andrew Crane; a son-in-law, James Dressel; five brothers, Francis, Gerald, Hubert, Milton and Roy and a sister, LaVerne Klatt. A Mass of Christian Burial was held on Nov. 10 at Precious Blood Parish. Father Ronald Timock and Father Corey Litzner con-celebrated the Mass, with Deacon Rivard assisting. Von Tobel, SJ, age 80, who served in the Diocese of Marquette, died on Sept. 23 at Munson Medical Center in Tra- verse City, Mich. Father Von Tobel was born on March 31, 1936 in Detroit. He entered the Society of Jesus in 1954, after graduating from the University of Detroit Jesuit High School. He was ordained a priest in 1967, at Colombiere Center in Clarkston, Mich. Father Von Tobel professed final vows in 1973, at the Loyola House Novi- tiate in Berkley, Mich. After his ordination, he taught at St. John Jesuit High School in Tole- do, Ohio for a year. He then served in various capacities at the Colombiere Center until 1977. Following a sabbatical, Father Von Tobel was the associate pastor at Gesu Parish in Detroit and the Detroit provincial assistant for pas- toral ministry (1978-1981). In 1981, he began serving with the Diocese of Marquette, where he was pastor of St. John the Baptist Parish in Marquette and superior of the Jesuit commu- nity. From 1984-1993, he became the provin- cial assistant for pastoral ministry, among other duties. Father Von Tobel then served as the superior and director of the Colombiere Center until 1999. In 2000, he returned to parish life, until his death. His most recent assignment was the acting pastor of Church of the Gesu in Univer- sity Heights, Ohio, where he intended to end his term in November 2016.
