We wish you Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Providing quality construction in the Upper Peninsula for over a century 180 Traders Mine Road Iron Mountain, Michigan 49801 (906) 779-2303 www.gcfirst.com initially make sure the house is structur- ally sound. Next a first floor renovation is planned to restore it to the era when Bishop Baraga lived there providing an area for edu- cational displays of artifacts used by Bishop Baraga. The first floor will also house a gift shop. Work on the second floor would begin with putting in office space and a work area. The last phase would add an educational area to the second floor as well as a tempera- ture-controlled room for artifacts and the digitization of Bishop Baraga materials in the archives. The idea is to make the house a place where people can come to learn more about this wonderful man, looking into the past in seeing what miracles (Bishop Baraga) per- formed, especially reaching out to Native Americans, Parent said. She added that it would also be a place of prayer where peo- ple can be in the home where Bishop Baraga lived, and to be among his artifacts. Lenora McKeen, executive director of the Baraga Association said, One of the primary purposes of the association is to provide edu- cational opportunities to the public regarding the heroic life of Venerable Frederic Baraga. Restoration of the Baraga House will allow the public to learn more about God's Faithful Servant and hopefully help guide them on their own spiritual journey. We are praying diligently for (Bishop Bara- ga's) beatification to happen, Parent said. In light of that, she added that restoration of the house will display the greatness of this man by showing people his accomplishments of bringing so many people to our Lord through his love and teachings. McKeen said The initial planning and fundraising phase is underway with the antic- ipation that the project will be completed in 2017. The Baraga Association is hoping to raise $250,000 to cover the cost of the renovation and digitization of the Baraga written and microfilmed material, said McKeen. That will allow us to make the works of Bishop Baraga open to the public.
